Enabling CIS
CIS Payroll can be enabled within each company by going through the following steps:
- Go to Settings
- Click on Payroll
- Find the Advanced Features
- Toggle the Enable CIS button
- Save the Payroll settings
Create CIS Pay Schedule
Once saved, head to the Pay Schedule settings.
There, you can create a new CIS Pay Schedule.
Once the above two steps are complete, CIS has been enabled and you can start adding contractors.
Add New CIS Contractor
From the People page, you will now see the option to Add New CIS Contractor.
Adding contractors go through a similar flow to adding Employees, including personal details, role, salary: (See: Adding a New Employee)
The main differences are:
- Employment Type will be CIS Contractor
- Tax Details are replaced with CIS Verification (see below)
- Salary's pay schedule is restricted to CIS pay schedules
Note: At the moment, contractors cannot be imported in bulk.
Verification of CIS Details
In the Verify CIS tab within the contractor's page in People, one can click to Verify Details with HMRC.
Upon verifying, you will see a notification until the data is obtained from HMRC.
CIS Payroll
From Run Payroll, you will be able to select the CIS Pay Schedules that you have created (e.g. CIS Monthly).
The Run Payroll process is similar to that of a typical payroll (see: Run Payroll Process).
The primary differences are:
- Deduction Tax Name will show CIS instead of PAYE/NIC/Pensions
- This will show the CIS details are verified or unverified
- Payslip details are changed to show Statement of Earnings.
Statement of Earnings
The pay-item breakdown of a Statement of Earnings acts similar to that of a payslip, with a slightly renamed version to clarify the type of document
CIS 300 (In Development)
After concluding a CIS payroll, a CIS 300 would be generated within the Tax Forms page. Kindly note that this is in development to be finalised in the coming days.
